so-on (pronounce souon) is the japanese word for 'noise' -- __ --- __ ------------ __ ----- ___ -- --
solid-borne noise // undesired sound // unwanted sound // uproar // vocal noise ...
"noise is unwanted sound. noise is any undesired sound. noise is the wrong sound in the wrong place.
this makes noise, to be sure, a relative term." (R.Murray Schafer)

[so-on] is an ever changing group of artists and curators, working with image, sound and technology.
In their projects they focus on the transversal field of installations, performances and audio-visual compositions.
The aim of so-on is to identify innovation and change while developing artistic projects, and focus on new aesthetical presentation techniques.
New technology including internet as a medium for performing, is predominantly present in the exhibitions, installations, lectures and connected performances.

[so-on] is initiated by annemie maes (brussels) working closely together with multiple collectives and artists in belgium and abroad.
As curator and core-member of okno, [so-on] is strongly involved in the artistic production and presentation of the okno.be public program and xmedk.be and other okno-workshops.

The archives of previous projects by annemie maes can be found on:

The No2Pho/notovo research project:
investigates the behaviour of language in its many appearances: textual, sonic and visual, as well as gestural or body language. How do these disparate elements relate to each other and how do they organize within a system which includes human and computer as a sender and a receiver [and vice versa].

A roof terras which we want to transform in an electronic and techno-ecological garden. A project for the year 2008.

With the eco-garden project we want to blend the real and the digital in one and the same nature. We will explore how this fusion takes place: examine in a digital way the growth, blossoming and decay of plants while they are submitted to the natural elements as wind, rain, snow, etc.

How can this evolution be generated, controlled, enhanced or imagined in artworks? Is our environment programmable? How does the fusion of natural and artificial matter produce new organisms, new environments, new natures? How does technology animate nature and space, and how do users and programs animate matter?
We explore the implementation of eco-garden-elements into wireless networks, both on micro level as on city level. We research the physical connections between people, programs, sensor-networks and uses of the eco-garden.
